If you’d prefer to rent your golf cart from a local business in town, that’s an option as well. However, it’s important to be aware that rates are often advertised at a low price without including extra fees (tax, insurance, gas, emergency service, etc.). Explore the Town of San Pedro
At just under 25 miles long, Ambergris Caye is the largest island in Belize and is home to a fantastic collection of bars, restaurants, and attractions. If you want to expand your horizon and venture away from our resort, hop in your golf cart and head into town. Some of the best local spots we recommend that you check out are:
- The Mennonite Farmers Market – Every Monday and Tuesday morning, Mennonite farmers pack up their organic goods and travel by boat from the mainland to sell the fruits of their labor on Ambergris Caye. They sell everything from sugar cane to beans to bananas to pineapples.
- Boca Del Rio – This beachfront strip of popular bars and restaurants sits at the mouth of a waterway that connects the sea on the west side of Ambergris Caye to that on the east side. It also features Roco del Rio Park with basketball courts, palapas, fishing piers, playgrounds, and more.
- Bars and restaurants – Some of our favorite stops are Truck Stop, Rum Dog, and The Dive Bar.
- Secret Beach – A fun-filled popular day trip in our area is Secret Beach. This lively string of bars and restaurants sits on the western side of the island and features tables in the water, paddleboards, kayak rentals, and more.
Note: It’s important to know that there are no CAR rentals available on the island. Most locals don’t even drive cars on the island. This helps to reduce traffic and congested parking and upkeeps the unique culture. For the most part, any car or truck on the island is a commercial taxi cab or delivery truck.
