Here in Belize, we love all things lobster! Each year the lobster harvesting season starts in June in the Caribbean. This year, the season-opening will be July 1, 2021. Visitors will flock to the Belizean islands to soak up the summer sunshine and enjoy these delicious crustaceans.  

Get up close and personal with the barrier reef and embark on our full-day boat trip, including lobster fishing, snorkeling, and a beach BBQ. You’ll have a blast searching for these creatures at several sites around Ambergris Caye, in addition to snorkeling and regular fishing. Then, our expert guides will navigate to an off-grid beach on the island’s uninhabited west side to prepare you a fantastic lunch. Local Fact: The lobsters here are quite different from your typical Maine lobsters. Our warm water lobsters are known as the Caribbean spiny lobster and look nothing like those found in the United States. The taste is similar, but spiny lobsters lack large meaty claws and are praised for their juicy tails.

Each year, the lobster season is celebrated across San Pedro, Caye Caulker, and Placencia. This year, the annual San Pedro Lobster Fest kicks off in July 2023. Throughout the event, you’ll enjoy lobster-themed fun, like water sports, competitions, beach parties, live concerts, dancing, and of course, plenty of mouthwatering food.   

Attend the International Costa Maya Festival 

The annual Costa Maya Festival has grown to be one of Belize’s largest and most anticipated cultural events of the year. It’s held in San Pedro the first week of August each year. This fabulous event features live music and entertainment, cultural performances from the region’s top acts, delectable cuisine, games, and the Miss Costa Maya International pageant.
